Members' Meeting - Your Style in dramatic "scape" in monochrome
Here are some useful notes from Trish - there's a lot of helpful information here, so please do have a good read!
This is once again a chance for you to enter 3 of your images (via the email system) to showcase your interpretation of 'scapes.
These might include:
"Landscape" showcases natural scenes like forests or mountains;
"Cityscape" highlights urban environments and architecture;
"Seascape" focuses on views of the sea;
"Beachscape" depicts coastal or sandy shore scenes;
"Waterscape" a vista with rivers or lakes;
"Snowscape" snow-covered landscapes;
"Nightscape" night-time views of natural or urban settings
So, once you have decided on the type of scape you then need to find the best ones for mono conversions!
Remember that a good mono conversion isn't just to desaturate a colour image, nor just click the B&W button. Think about what you are trying to say with your image - what are you showing the viewer; where do you want them to look. What is your "story", or your "emotion".
Within most post-processing software there is a B&W tab once you have done an initial mono conversion - you then control the colours (in the same way as if you were using a colour filter) and the full spectrum of the shades from absolute black to absolute white. Think Ansel Adams of course!
This website gives some excellent additional information about the filters and techniques that he used to create some of his astonishing work.

As we have done over the previous couple of member night submissions as follows please:
Size them at normal competition ratio of 1600px on the width and 1200px on the height.
If you are unsure how to resize please look at the "How to document" resizing_images.pdf (stroudcameraclub.co.uk)
It is also very simple to do using Lightroom or Photoshop or even Windows Photos (the standard picture viewer in Windows 10 and 11 - just click the 3 dots and then click resize image).
If you need any help, please just ask and any of the experienced members will be happy to help.
Submitting your images for member nights
Please email to: socialscc@outlook.com
Deadline: Midnight Wednesday 6th November
Mick has put together a document to assist with this simple method of submission -
"How to guide" Microsoft Word - Members Nights Image Submission (stroudcameraclub.co.uk)
Can you ensure that your images are NOT EMBEDDED - you need to send them as attachments - if you are having trouble, please email me. secretary@stroudcameraclub.co.uk - do not send queries to the socialscc email as it is not monitored in the same way - it is for an automated system. Generally if you click on a button/relevant icon and say "attach file" your images will send as attachments and not become embedded. Often if you drag and drop they may embed.
Thank you for reading!
